Ng has performed in 48 states nationally for more than 500,000 people, according to NormanMagic.com. Ng said his first paid magic show was when he was 12 years old. He currently tours 300 days of the year. Ng said he has been touring universities for eight years and 90 percent of his performances are at universities because the age group can still enjoy magic.“They’re a great audience, this age group — 18 to mid-20s — is perfect for magic,” Ng said. “Smart (enough) to follow complex ideas but they’re still immature enough to be engaged.”
Robert Burns, a freshman at UNR, said he came to see the show for entertainment but mostly for one of his classes.
“In Business 101 we have to do activity write-ups so I decided to see a magic show,” Burns said.
For one of Ng’s last tricks he hid a participant’s phone in one of three bags and then proceeded to smash two of the three bags with a baseball bat. Upon opening the third bag, the phone was not present and appeared to be destroyed. Ng removed the participant’s phone from a sealed Pringles case on stage.
Ng said his favorite part of performing magic is the reactions he gets from people. In the future, Ng hopes to travel less and spend more time with his wife and three kids. Eventually Ng would like to do a magic show on
Broadway. Ng said he loves touring and will continue with a bigger and better show every year.
