TELLURIDE, Colo.—Telluride is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its opera house by going back to its roots.
A year-long celebration of the Sheridan Opera House starts Sunday with a vaudeville variety show, a type of entertainment that was popular in its early years. The Telluride Daily Planet ( http://bit.ly/VbiM30) reported Friday that the show will include magic tricks, can-can dancing and a melodrama entitled "Miners, Madams and Mayhem!"

A '70s ski party, an '80s wedding party and a '20s-themed speakeasy gala are also planned in 2013.

The opera house hosts premieres at the Telluride Film Festival and is also used for concerts, children's plays and ski movie screenings. It opened in 1913 as the Segerberg Theater. Besides vaudeville shows, it hosted socialite balls, orchestras and boxing matches.
